American Silver Dollar, Eagle Silver Dollar Coins Are A Great Place To Start A coin Collection
Almost everyone in the U.S. has seen an American Silver Dollar at least once – although they generally aren’t used as often as paper currency, American Silver Dollar coins are often prized collectibles.
With the new Presidential Silver Dollar coins series currently in production by the U.S. Mint, the American Silver Dollar is poised once again to become a treasured addition to coin collections of the next generation.
While the old American Silver Dollar coins have depicted various figures, both real and mythical, the newly minted American Silver Dollar coins honor the United States presidents of the past. Starting with George Washington, and continues through the next 37 presidents in order, with the run scheduled to end in 2016.
Value increases over time
These new coins will initially only be worth face value, however, there is the possibility of increased valuation as time passes and the available supply of these coins becomes more limited.
Of the older American Silver Dollar coins, the Liberty silver dollar and the Morgan silver dollar are both highly treasured by coin collectors. These silver dollars can fetch hundreds or even thousands of dollars upon auction or sale, depending upon the grade of the coin.
The value of newly minted American Silver Dollar currency in the future cannot be predicted, but for the novice coin collector, the chance to have a complete set is one that should not be missed. Whenever it’s possible to obtain them, uncirculated coins are the ideal choice in this instance, as they will have the best coin grade, and if properly preserved from the beginning.
Whether you prefer the history and value of the older American Silver Dollar coins, or the new series of American Silver Dollars depicting our nation’s presidents of the past, one thing is clear – the American Silver Dollar will continue to be a viable part of our history well into the future. Collecting the old and the new together may be an excellent way to start a collection, or renew the excitement of an old hobby.
Aside from the fact that a silver dollar contains .776 troy ounces of pure silver which is worth about 10$ to 11$ at the time of writing in 2009, older coins have become such items of demand that some prices defy imagination.
